Looking for a solid day on the water without breaking the bank or dealing with rough seas? Our 6-hour inshore fishing charter out of Port Canaveral hits that sweet spot perfectly. You'll spend a productive morning into early afternoon fishing the flats, grass beds, and shallow reefs where the fish are biting year-round. Captain will put you on the fish while teaching you the tricks that make Port Canaveral one of Florida's top-rated inshore destinations. With all gear included and no surprise fees, you can focus on what matters most - catching fish and making memories with your crew.
This 6-hour trip gives you plenty of time to work different spots and target whatever's biting best that day. We'll launch from Port Canaveral and head to the productive waters of the Mosquito Lagoon, Banana River, or Indian River depending on conditions and what species are most active. The beauty of inshore fishing here is the variety - you might start the morning sight-casting to tailing redfish in skinny water, then move to deeper grass flats for trout, and finish up working structure for snook or black drum. Captain keeps things moving and adjusts tactics based on what's working, so you're always in the action. The boat stays comfortable in protected waters, making this perfect for families with kids or anyone who gets queasy in rough seas. You'll get hands-on instruction throughout the day, learning to read the water, spot fish, and improve your casting technique.
We fish light tackle on these inshore trips - typically spinning reels spooled with 15-20 pound braid that gives you the sensitivity to feel every bump while having enough backbone to turn big fish away from structure. You'll work with a mix of artificial lures like soft plastics, topwater plugs, and suspending baits depending on conditions. Live bait fishing with shrimp, pinfish, or mullet is also highly effective, especially when fish are finicky or during tougher bite periods. The captain will rig everything and show you proper presentation techniques for each spot we hit. Shallow water sight fishing is a real highlight - there's nothing like watching a 30-inch redfish cruise up to your bait in two feet of crystal clear water. We also work grass beds with weedless rigs, oyster bars with heavier jigs, and dock lines where snook love to ambush prey. All tackle, bait, and gear is included, plus the boat has a fish cleaning station so you can take your catch home ready for the dinner table.
Redfish are the bread and butter of Port Canaveral inshore fishing and what most anglers get fired up about. These copper-colored bruisers run anywhere from slot-size keepers around 18-27 inches up to monster bull reds pushing 40+ inches and 30 pounds. They're here year-round but peak from September through November when big schools move through the area. Reds feed aggressively on cut bait, live shrimp, and artificials worked near oyster bars, grass edges, and shallow flats. What makes them so exciting is their powerful runs and the visual aspect - you'll often see them tailing, crashing bait, or cruising in skinny water where every cast matters.
Spotted seatrout are another customer favorite and Port Canaveral's grass flats are loaded with them. These beautiful fish with distinctive black spots along their sides typically run 14-20 inches with some reaching the mid-20s. Spring and fall offer the best action when trout school up over grass beds in 3-8 feet of water. They hit soft plastics bounced along the bottom, live shrimp under popping corks, and topwater lures early in the morning. Trout have soft mouths so the fight is more about finesse, but they're excellent table fare and fun on light tackle. The key is finding the right depth and grass density where they're holding.
Snook bring serious excitement to any inshore trip with their aggressive strikes and acrobatic fights. These silver-sided predators with the distinctive black lateral line love structure - docks, bridges, mangrove shorelines, and inlet mouths. Summer months from May through August are prime time when snook are most active and feeding heavily. They ambush prey from cover, so accurate casting is crucial. A well-placed live bait or perfectly twitched artificial near a dock piling can trigger explosive strikes. Snook jump repeatedly when hooked and make powerful runs, testing your drag and technique. Currently catch and release only, but the fight alone makes them worth targeting.
Black drum round out the primary targets and these bottom dwellers can really test your tackle. They range from smaller "puppy drum" around 5-10 pounds up to true giants exceeding 40 pounds. Drum love deeper grass flats, oyster beds, and channel edges where they root around for crabs and shellfish. Cut bait and live shrimp fished on the bottom work best. Winter months often produce the largest drum as they school up for spawning. Their initial run is incredibly powerful and they use their broad sides to fight in the current, making for a serious tug-of-war battle.
Port Canaveral's inshore waters offer some of Florida's most consistent fishing with multiple species available every trip. This 6-hour charter gives you the time to really explore different areas and techniques while learning from an experienced captain who knows these waters inside and out. Whether you're a seasoned angler looking to dial in your inshore game or a family wanting to get the kids hooked on fishing, this trip delivers the goods. With all gear included, no hidden fees, and a private boat for your group of up to 4 people, you just need to show up ready to fish. The memories you'll make sight-casting to redfish and battling snook
